Welcome to the last Saturday without College Football! Next week begins 14 Saturdays of awesomeness, followed by the buzz killing hangover that is the Bowl System. I’ll be writing more about that later this week.
Because there is football on until the end of the baseball season, today is the Royals last televised Saturday Game. It’s probably a good idea on their part, but it shouldn’t be that way.
The negatives of sports are in constantly in the news. Certainly there are things that need to be fixed. But there are lots of positives to sports and lots of positive people and stories. Since I’m a postive person I will do my best to bring those stories to this blog. Here is one I ran across this week. If that doesn’t make you smile you’re beyond help.
I used to be a big NHL fan. The story of how got that way growing up in Kansas is long and I’ll explain it later. My fandom declined when the NHL left ESPN for Versus. I’m not paying extra for Versus so I just don’t watch the NHL as much. I’m a Colorado Avalanche fan. Beleive it or not, all of Kansas except the KC Metro Area is in the Avalanche TV area. When I first started following the Avalanche in the early 2000’s Chris Drury was a young player making his mark in the league, and was a contributor on the 2001 Avalanche Stanley Cup team. Chris Drury retired last week. I enjoyed wathing him play, he’s part of the reason I got into hockey.
Finally, I am a Chiefs fan. After last years playoff apperance I should be excited about the upcoming season. But I’m not and last nights game didn’t instill a lot of confidence. I know it’s the preseason and I know how the Chiefs management approaches preseason games. There are issues and I’ll be doing a post about those before the season starts.
But for now, it’s still summer for 3 1/2 weeks. I’m going to the pool to get drenched, Sportsdrenched!
